Mañana miércoles 19 de abril de 2023 a les 19.00 horas, en
el Monasterio de Santa María (c. Mossèn
Antoni Paradís, 47) de Santa Oliva, tenéis una nueva oportunidad de escuchar de
la propia voz de Joan Latorre como ha sido la aventura de escribir este libro.
De bien seguro que la narración os atrapará y os animará a conocer mejor a
Jaume Foix y La Mina-Vinyet.
Hace unas semanas Joan Latorre i Solé, acompañado de Miquel Gutiérrez-Poch, del Centre d’Estudis Jordi Nadal de la Universitat de Barcelona y de Nati Castejón, directora de l’Arxiu Comarcal del Baix Penedès, presentó en el Vendrell su libro “Un vinicultor vendrellenc: Jaume Foix i Julivert (1853-1910) y la Mina-Vinyet.
La presentación fue uno de esos actos en que cada participante te ofrece una verdadera
conferencia, valiosa por su contenido y entretenida en la forma, de tal manera
que te estimulan a leer el libro.
Este libro nos habla de la vida y obra de Jaume Foix i
Julivert, de su visión comercial y de su capacidad emprendedora; de como desde
el Vendrell hizo de sus vinos y especialmente de su vermut un producto apreciado
en Francia o en Alemania; y de como creó una red de distribución comercial que mantuvo
su arraigo con el Vendrell.
La narración está extremadamente bien contextualizada en el
período en que sucedieron los hechos, con ese cuidado y dedicación por el
detalle que tiene Joan Latorre cuando investiga y escribe; por ello el libro es
también un retrato del Vendrell de finales del siglo XIX e inicios del siglo XX
y de sus personajes más ilustres.
Jaume Foix fue un reconocido vinicultor y comerciante, con
una visión muy avanzada para su época; a la vez que consideró que la
especialización y la calidad eran las vías para alcanzar sus metas. Una de las
anécdotas que explicó Joan Latorre es que había en Francia distribuidores que
compraban el vermut de La Mina-Vinyet, le quitaban la etiqueta, la sustituían
por otra, y lo vendían como producto francés, al punto que lo exportaban. A
veces el veía servir en un bar ese vermut y reconocía la botella, y sonreía con
socarronería cuando oía decir “ que se notaba que era un producto francés”.

A few weeks
ago, Joan Latorre i Solé, accompanied by Miguel Gutierrez-Poch, from the Jordi Nadal
Study Center of the University of Barcelona, and Nati Castejón, director of the
Baix Penedès Regional Archive, presented his book “Un vendrellenc vinemaker:
Jaume Foix i Julivert (1853-1910) and the Mina-Vinyet”.
The
presentation was one of those acts in which each participant offers you a real
conference, valuable for its content and entertaining in its form, in such a
way that it stimulates you to read the book.
This book
tells us about the life and work of Jaume Foix I Julivert, his commercial vison
an his entrepreneurial capacity; how from el Vendrell he made his wines and especially
his vermouth a valued product in France or Germany, and how he created a
commercial distribution network that maintained his roots in El Vendrell.
The
narration is extremely well contextualized in the period in which the events occurred,
with the care and dedication to the detail that Joan Laotre has when he investigated
and writes. For this reason, the book is also a portrait of El Vendrell at the
end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th
century and of its most illustrious characters.
Jaume Foix
was a renowned winemaker and merchant, with a very advanced vision for his time
because he considered that specialization and quality were the ways to achieve
his goals. Joan Latorre explained an anecdote: there were distributors in
France who bought La Mina-Vinyet vermouth,
removed the label, replaced it with another, and sold it as a French product,
to the point that they exported it. Sometimes Jaume Foix would see that
vermouth being served in a bar and recognize the bottle, and he would smile
wryly when he heard say “you could tell it was a French product”.
The book
has been published by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Baix Penedès Regional Council,
with the collaboration of the Vendrell Town Hall and the Santa Oliva Twn Hall,
under the coordination of the Baix Penedès Regional Archive.
